Blogging - where should I start?

Who would have thought I would be writing a blog? If someone had asked me this 5 years ago, I would have said that they are nuts. I must say that some things have changed for me during the past few months. It has been in the back of my mind for the couple of years now, but now I feel that I have enough confirmation from people whom I respect. "Why should I blog?" you might ask. First of all, your blog brings you credibility as a professional, empowers a clear thinking and it is an amazing way to meditate. "Meditate? Seriously?" Yes, for me writing is meditation. I just love to get lost in my thought and there is something really relaxing when you are writing down your ideas on "paper".

I want to blog, but...

No "buts", just do it. Seriously. It is not as hard as you think it is, even if you are a terrible writer, such as I am. Apart from getting credibility, it will be such a pleasure to read the first comment you will receive that will go in the lines of "Hey, thank you so much! I was struggling with this and your post helped a lot".

I have nothing to write about

No worries, there is a cure for that. Take bat legs, add 300ml (that's 10.1442 oz in freedom units) of ketchup, unicorns’ armpit and blend it all together... Sorry, could not resist!
There is always something to write about. Our experiences are unique and there are no two people like you in this world. Remember, when you solve a problem there is a person in the world that might have the same issue as you've just had. Maybe your blog post will alter his (her) life in a way that you cannot even imagine. The greatest advice I've ever had on this topic was: "Write for yourself as you were two weeks ago". Surely, you will hit the sweet spot, even if you are an absolute beginner. We all were there.

So, where do I start?

I totally recommend taking a remarkable email blogging course by John Sonmez. This course will help you to set up your blog and will guide you trough the process of building one of your greatest assets as a programmer - your blog. Don't wait for a miracle to happen, just start to do it, even if at the beginning your blog is just a pile of crap. Oh, sorry, should not have said that. Just remember, blogging is like every other skill. Practice will make it perfect!
